TPPSNJ Principles

The “Tea Party Patriots of Southern New Jersey” (TPPSNJ) is an organization aligned with Conservative
principles, many of which are shared by Tea Party organizations throughout the country.  Each Tea Party
organization is free to identify and emphasize its own principle beliefs.  Below is a summary of principle
beliefs supported by the leadership and members of the TPPSNJ.  The TPPSNJ will support political
candidates and positions that most closely align with our principle beliefs, which are as follows:

1.  Protect and defend the U.S. Constitution  -  Our Constitution is an “inspired” document.  In the original
document and first ten amendments, our founding fathers established fundamental principles that have led
to American exceptionalism.  These principles must be defended against attempts to diminish the relevance
of our Constitution in today’s world. Circumstances change requiring us to adapt; principles remain constant
and must be honored.

2.  Our inalienable rights come from the Creator  -  In the Declaration of Independence, our founding fathers
set forth their belief that our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness do not come from the
government; they come from our Creator.  As such, those rights cannot be legitimately taken from us by
government, and we must not surrender those rights in exchange for temporary comforts or short term
security.  Our founders also believed that only a “moral people” would be able to govern themselves in a free
and open society, and that a belief in a Higher Being and adherence to Judeo-Christian principles would be
most beneficial in maintaining a moral society.

3.  Less Government equals more freedom – Our founding fathers were very concerned about the inherent
tendency of any government to grow in size and power.  In our Constitution, they sought to limit the size and
scope of government.  Over time, the intentions of the founders have been circumvented by lesser men, to
the extent that the Federal Government has gained undue power and influence over the American people
and their enterprises – at the expense of individual liberty.  We must not only stop the growth of government;
we must roll it back to its Constitutional boundaries.

4.  Strong National Defense  -  A fundamental and unchallenged role of government is to provide for the
common defense of the nation and its people.  We believe this includes the defense of American interests
abroad, the security of our borders at home, and “domestic tranquility” within our borders.

5.  Equality of opportunity; not outcome  -  The founders established our system of government to better
ensure equal opportunity for all Americans to pursue their goals, dreams and fortunes.  They did so with the
understanding that some would succeed while others would fail.  With this acceptance of reality, combined
with the freedom afforded by the Constitution, America became the most exceptional nation ever known to
man, where even those who fail can maintain the hope and possibility of trying again - and succeeding.  The
founders would not have supported governmental interference in this dynamic where they saw it as a family,
friends, and neighborly responsibility to assist those in need.

6.  Energy Independence  -  Energy independence must become a national objective.  By developing our own
abundant energy resources, we would lessen the likelihood of having to defend national interests abroad,
while creating more jobs and opportunities for Americans at home, and drastically reducing the trade deficit.
Through greater access to our resources, and use of modern technology in developing renewable and finite
energy resources, we would better ensure a clean environment and improved standard of living for future
generations.  With that in mind, we must pursue the development of clean and efficient energy from all
sources, including nuclear, coal and oil within our territorial and off-shore limits.

7.  Legal immigration; not illegal immigration  -  We are a nation of immigrants.  Legal immigration has kept
our country renewed and growing over the past two centuries.  We support the legal immigration of people
from a wide variety of nations who want to come to America to be Americans.  Illegal immigration has
produced a burden to society, both in economic terms and in terms of our nation’s cohesiveness.  Since
9/11, we realize that the failure to protect our borders has presented a risk to national security as well.  The
Federal government must do its duty to enforce our borders and pursue a viable immigration policy that will
support immigrants coming to our country legally.

8._Capitalism over Statism -  Once government gets too involved or directly controls any aspect of the private
sector, the dynamics that made our nation’s economy so successful become drastically altered - and
damaged.  Despite their cyclical ups and downs, Capitalism and free markets allowed for the generation of
tremendous national and individual wealth, a wealth that has been broadly shared by the millions who
participated in this “grand experiment.”  Capitalism is the tide that lifts all ships, and government must refrain
from doing any more than what is necessary to ensure that all can participate in this system to the fairest
extent feasible.

It is the hope of the leadership of the TPPSNJ that all those who subscribe to any or all of our principle
beliefs will join the ranks of Tea Party Patriots.  For the most part, joining our ranks is a simple process of
adding your name/address to our email list so we can help you stay informed of important events and
happenings.  There is strength in numbers, and we hope to use our numbers to influence public officials to
cast their votes in ways that would be in line with our principle beliefs.  To “join our ranks” simply fill out the
